Announcement from the Cleveland Archival Roundtable

Dear CAR members,

CAR mission statement: The Cleveland Archival Roundtable (CAR), founded in 1989, is an organization of archivists, historians, and other individuals interested in the preservation and use of the rich historical resources of greater Cleveland and the Western Reserve region. CAR meets to tour archival, historical, and cultural repositories, discuss areas of mutual concern, and promote professional development and collaboration among members.

At the CAR meeting last week the membership discussed and voted to approve a more formal membership registration process and instituting regular annual dues in order to provide the organization with a steady income to use for educational programming, meeting incidentals such as security and refreshments, and other items as approved by the membership (“scholarships” to attend SOA or MAC, etc.).  In order to properly levy membership dues the steering committee will meet to discuss and decide upon a more formal organization including the election, responsibilities, and terms of officers; and appropriate membership dues. The resulting plan will be presented to the current membership (as constituted by the mailing list) for a vote.  Your comments on this proposal are welcome and may be submitted to the CAR blog at
